Curriculum Connections

Current Events Hub lessons are built to slide into multiple curricula without you having to rewrite them. The focus is on transferable thinking skills: conceptual understanding, inquiry, evidence, and multiple perspectives.

C3 Social Studies Framework

Lessons support students in:

  • developing and refining inquiries (each lesson is framed around a central inquiry question)
  • developing claims using evidence
  • constructing claims and communicating conclusions
  • connecting issues to civic life and decision-making
Literacy in Social Studies (Common Core-style skills)

Students practice:

  • reading informational texts for central ideas and supporting evidence
  • building subject vocabulary in context
  • writing arguments with evidence (often in CER-style formats)
  • structured speaking and listening through discussion and reflection
IB connections (MYP & DP / Pre-IB readiness)

Lessons reinforce:

  • concept-driven thinking (e.g., power, sovereignty, legitimacy, interdependence)
  • Approaches to Learning skills: research, critical thinking, communication
  • perspective-taking and bias awareness
  • exploration of the implications of current events
Compatible with GCSE / A-level / Canadian & Australian Social Studies strands

Because lessons emphasize cause and consequence, systems thinking, multiple perspectives, and evidence, they align naturally with:

  • civics and citizenship outcomes
  • historical thinking / disciplinary thinking
  • geographic thinking (human-environment and global patterns)
  • media literacy and digital citizenship expectations
